About Gary Bevans, Artist

Born in London, United Kingdom, I moved to Worthing, West Sussex in the 1970's. Although I never had an art lesson beyond high school, I was drawn to art and I quickly discovered that I could copy famous works of art.

I studied traditional sign writing which became my trade. After a visit to Rome in 1986, I asked permission from my parish priest to paint an exact copy of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling that I visited in the Vatican upon the ceiling of our Catholic parish church of the English Martyrs. The project took me five and half years.

I currently paint Icons, wildlife and nature, particularly wild animals and landscapes of Sussex. I make these available as originals or prints as well as cards. My work is mainly produced using acrylic, the medium I used to paint my copy of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling Reproduction.

I am available for commissions be it in private homes or businesses and am delighted to undertake work including trompe l'oeil, shop fascias, interior painting and decorating, portraiture, vehicles and more. I work throughout the Sussex area and am always interested in new projects. Contact me on my Contact Page.
